Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship

Three incoming Fairmont State University freshmen have been selected as the recipients of Fairmont State’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. Sophie Stuart from Jefferson High School (Charles town, W.VA), Hailey Jordan from Fairmont Senior High School (Fairmont, W.VA) and Jayden Sharps from Scott High School (Madison, W.VA) are this year’s Presidential Scholars and will be joining the campus community this fall.

Fairmont State has named three West Virginia high school seniors recipients of the University’s premiere academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. Kate Gorrell of Tyler Consolidated High School, Franki Shumate of Mount View High School and Ryan Williams of Winfield High School will join the Falcon Family on campus during the fall 2022 semester.

Gorrell plans to pursue both an undergraduate and graduate degree in architecture at Fairmont State.

Three West Virginia high school seniors have been selected as winners of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. The recipients -- Joel Phelps of Spring Mills High School, Katarina Curry of Chapmanville Regional High School and Sara Adams of Independence High School -- will join the Falcon Family in the fall of 2021.

Fairmont State University alumna Rebecca Goydel hopes to leave her mark in cancer research by continuing her education at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida.

Her vision for her future started while attending Wheeling Park High School. She wanted a degree in chemistry but also wanted to teach.
