Folklife Center Gala on June 1 Relocated to Colebank Hall

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will present the Friends of Folklife Gala Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.

Due to expected inclement weather, events for June 1 will take place at Colebank Hall. The History Alive presentation scheduled for June 2 will take place as originally planned at the Folklife Center.

WYK Associates Presents Architecture Awards to FSU

WYK Associates, Inc. of Clarksburg was honored with three Merit Design Awards at the 35th Annual American Institute of Architects-West Virginia Gala in Charleston on April 13. Their work on the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on campus received two Merit Design Awards for Achievement in Architecture: one for overall design and one for interior design.

Spring Music Gala Highlights Students and West Virginia Folklore

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts Department of Music celebrates the spirit of musical connection with its Spring Music Gala at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, in Colebank Hall.

Admission is free to the performance with a donation to The Soup Opera. Representatives will be at the concert to collect canned goods and other donations. For more information, call (304) 367-4219.

Northern Ireland Week to Be Proclaimed in Fairmont

To be proclaimed as Northern Ireland Week by the City of Fairmont, the week of April 1 through 5 will feature the visit of a distinguished delegation of visitors from Northern Ireland. A series of speaking events and presentations, several of which will be open to the public, has been planned.

Students Participate in 2012 Appalachian Teaching Project

A team of Fairmont State University students traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier in December to present their comparative research tourism as part of the 2012 ARC Appalachian Teaching Project. Their project focused on the exploration of conflict and poverty in relationship to community sustainability and economic stability between Northern Ireland and North Central West Virginia through heritage tourism.
