Fairmont State University has named Dr. Fred Fidura as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. He began his duties this week and will serve until a permanent appointment to the position is made.

The traditional Homecoming Parade for Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College presented by Student Government will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in downtown Fairmont. Student Government has selected FSU alumni Frank and Jane Gabor, as parade marshals.

Grand Opening Celebration Planned for Folklife Center

A Grand Opening Celebration is planned for the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College. As part of a week of events planned for Homecoming 2011, the Grand Opening Celebration will take place at 3 p.m. at the Folklife Center, which is located near the Squibb Wilson Boulevard entrance to the main campus.

Fundraiser to Support Students' Study in Italy

 The Calabria-West Virginia Italian Heritage Association will sponsor a fundraiser this weekend to support students wishing to study at the University of Calabria in Italy. 

The event, which will be held in conjunction with the annual West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, will recognize the contribution to life in the state and beyond by a successful Italian-American, and encourage further exchange of students between Calabria and Fairmont.

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) designated Dr. Judy P. Byers and Noel W. Tenney as ARC Appalachian Teaching Fellows for the 2010-2011 academic year.  These two individuals are jointly responsible for administering the Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP) on the campus of Fairmont State University.

 As part of his two-week statewide “Call for Common Sense” tour, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin will be the guest of honor today, Jan. 12, at an event called Fairmont Forward: A Celebration of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center with Senator Joe Manchin.
