The Fairmont State University Department of Humanities and the Masquers student theatre organization will present Us and Them on Tuesday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre on campus, with free admission for both showings.

Fairmont State University has been selected to participate in the Appalachian Teaching Project sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Through the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center, Fairmont State University students will partner with the Board of Trustees of the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont and the Marion County Convention and Visitor Bureau to create communication resources for the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will begin work on an online curriculum and resource project, The Trunk of Traditional Tunes, funded by the West Virginia Humanities Council through a CARES Act Emergency Relief Grant. 

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host Pam R. Johnson Davis, a writer, historian, singer and educator, for an online presentation titled, “Writing Toward Healing,” taking place on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. 

Storyteller and spoken word artist, Ellouise Schoettler will perform two programs in April as part of a Celebration of Women’s History at Fairmont State University.

Students from Fairmont State University’s “The Art of Storytelling” course have the opportunity to present storytelling programming for the community.

Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the documentary “Miss Representation” addresses how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.

Students from the Fairmont State University Theatre Program saw the Pittsburgh Public Theatre’s production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” adapted by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett on Sunday, Sept. 27. 

Twelve students from Fairmont State University traveled to Jonesborough, Tenn., for the National Storytelling Festival the first weekend of October. These students are enrolled in “The Art of Storytelling,” a class that is cross-listed as a course in theatre, communication and folklore. 

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and The FSU Academy for the Arts present “Big and Little Tales: An Evening of Story and Theatre,” featuring West Virginia storyteller Adam Booth followed by the FSU Youth Acting Company’s adaptions of Bil Lepp’s story, “The King of Little Things.”
