Fairmont State Alumnus loans artifacts for Civil War Collection on Exhibit at Folklife Center

Fairmont State University students working toward their museum studies minor have created a new exhibit, The Civil War: Selections from the Porter Stiles Collection, under the direction of Dr. Marian Hollinger. The grand opening will be at 7 p.m. Monday, November 11, at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center.

Native West Virginian actor celebrated with 5-night film seminar

A celebration of John “Fuzzy” Knight, a five-night film seminar will be hosted at The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center. Knight was an actor who grew up in Fairmont and went on to play in over 180 films and televisions shows. 

Music on the Hill Artist Series Presents Suzanne Hatcher

Guest artist Suzanne Hatcher, soprano, will present a solo recital on Friday, October 25, as part of the Fairmont State University Music on the Hill Artist Series.  This family-friendly, free program will feature a wide variety of music, including the “Wesendonck-Lieder”—one of the rare non-operatic works of Richard Wagner—and Rachmaninoff’s famous “Vocalise.” Accompanying Hatcher on piano will be Fairmont State faculty member, John Morrison.

The public is invited to attend this free event on October 15 at 7 p.m., as Ms. Manley reads from her memoir, “Don’t Tell ‘em You’re Cold: A Memoir of Poverty and Resilience.”

Folklife Center to host Square Dance to kick-off Gala

Join the Folklife Center for an old time Square Dance featuring caller Taylor Runner and music by the Kennedy Barn String Band.

On Thursday, September 19th at 7 p.m., the Folklife Center will hold a square dance in the Great Room of Cultures on the second floor of the center. This event is free and open to the public and is a beginner friendly dance, with all ages from kids on up welcome. Everyone is encouraged to join in but may also just watch, listen, and enjoy.
