On Feb. 17 and 18, Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will host the 20^th Annual Student Leadership Conference with the theme “Where Will You Be Tomorrow?” Sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Residence Life and Student Government, the conference is designed for high school and college students, student organization and club leaders, Greek life officers and members, Student Government members, Freshman Counselors, residence hall advisers and prospective leaders.

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of 19 locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal Sunday^SM event on Sunday, Feb. 12, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Students and parents can receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) during the free workshops.

Jacob Shahan, a senior at Grafton High School was selected to attend the 12^th Annual National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) Youth Leadership Summit that was held in San Francisco, California, July 17-20, 2011.

 A new camp sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, which serves Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, is promoting “Learning Without Borders.”

The Fairmont State GEAR UP Partnership will host its annual High School Quiz Bowl Competitionon Saturday, March 5, in the Falcon Center Conference Rooms on the main campus. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude with an afternoon award ceremony. High schools participating this year include: Clay Battelle, Liberty, Lincoln, Webster Springs and University.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest Banquet on Tuesday, Jan. 18, recognized area high school students who participated in the contest that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fairmont State University GEAR UP and West Virginia GEAR UP, the state's two GEAR UP programs, are joining forces to encourage students to apply early to colleges and universities through College Application Week on Nov. 14-20.

Fairmont State University is hosting high school students from five area high schools today, Oct. 21, for its second annual language Immersion Day.

A special event planned for Sunday, Feb. 21, will give students and parents the opportunity to obtain free, expert help in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
