Fairmont State’s Folklife Center to host Ballads, Hymns and Dulcimers benefit concert

Fairmont State University’s Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center will host the Ballads, Hymns and Dulcimers benefit concert on Sunday, August 28 at 2 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public with donations to be accepted to aid flood victims in Eastern Kentucky. Musicians including Rob N. Lackey, Lynette Swiger and The Kennedy Barn String Band will be featured during the benefit concert.

Folklife Center to Host Folk Music Events This Fall Starting Sept. 18

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center at Fairmont State University will host folk music events on Thursday evenings this fall.

As part of the Introduction to Folk Music class taught by Lynette Swiger, a folk music concert featuring Elmer Rich and Mark Crabtree is planned for 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in The Great Room of Cultures at the Folklife Center. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.

"Mountain Mother Goose" to Visit Wallman Stage

Jingles, jangles, rhymes, The Hunkitchy Man, The Greedy Old Fat Man, Marigold and more -- you’ll find them all in “Mountain Mother Goose,” an operetta for young audiences.

The production, presented by the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts, the Town and Gown Youth Company and the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center, will be on stage in the Wallman Hall Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10. Following each performance will be a reception to meet the composer and the cast at the Folklife Center. Tickets are $12 and are available by calling (304) 367-4240.
