Collaboration continues beyond Fulbright Scholar’s placement at Fairmont State

Earlier this year, Fairmont State University welcomed its first Fulbright Scholar in more than two decades.

Fulbright Scholar, Alexander Lyapin, from the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, Russia visited the University for nine months while teaching calculus and programming courses, conducting research and publishing articles alongside his host through the Fulbright Program, Fairmont State Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Tom Cuchta.

A $25,000 gift from a Fairmont State alumnus will ensure that a graduating senior in Mathematics will receive the James A. LaRue Mathematics Award each year for many years to come in memory of a dedicated professor.

Math Department Members Present at 2015 WVCTM Conference

Fairmont State University Math Department faculty members, along with FSU pre-service mathematics teachers, attended the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference on March 13 and 14 at the Stonewall Jackson Resort.

The two-day conference focuses on learning from other mathematics teachers in West Virginia about ways to improve mathematics instruction.
