FAFSA Help Available During "FAFSA Frenzy"

West Virginia students can get free help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other college financial aid forms during FAFSA Frenzy on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Gaston Caperton Center, 501 West Main St., Clarksburg.

Fairmont State University staff from the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and the Office of Financial Aid will assist with FAFSA Frenzy at the Caperton Center on Feb. 11.

2014 McClain Presidential Scholarship Winners Announced

For the sixth consecutive year, three West Virginia high school seniors have been named as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship.

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of 25 locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal SundaySM event on Sunday, Feb. 9, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), the West Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and several other college access programs including TRiO and GEAR UP work together to coordinate the event.

Gift from Alumna Funds FSU Student Scholarships

The gift of a Fairmont State University alumna and former employee illustrates the significant impact possible through planned giving.

A bequest from the Mary K. Kaiser and John P. Kaiser Family Trust will provide more than $330,000 to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., that will be used for FSU student scholarships.

Apply for any scholarship for which you think you may be eligible, advises Cynthia Hudok, Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships for Fairmont State University.

“Don’t limit yourself,” she said. “You just apply and go for it and put your name out there.”

Hudok said there are two keys to a successful scholarship application: apply early and make sure all of your information is filled out correctly.

PROMISE Beyond Offers New Opportunities for PROMISE Scholars

West Virginia students who qualify as PROMISE Scholars can take advantage of a new scholarship program called PROMISE Beyond that aims to cover the full cost of tuition at Fairmont State University.

The scholarships awarded through this program would be a four-year commitment by the University, and students receiving these scholarships would be required to maintain a minimum GPA once enrolled at FSU.
