Fairmont State alumnus appointed to Board of Governors

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has announced the appointment of WV native Rusty Hutson to the Fairmont State University Board of Governors. 

“We’re thrilled that Rusty Hutson has been appointed to the University’s Board of Governors. He brings years of experience and a keen governance acumen,” Martin said. “As a Fairmont State University graduate, he also appreciates our mission, recognizes our opportunities, and has an enduring fondness for Fairmont State.” 

Community Bonfire and Kick-Off to start Homecoming 2019

Fairmont State University invites the entire Falcon Family to the Community Bonfire and Kick-Off to help start Homecoming 2019. All community members, students, and alumni are invited for an evening full of school spirit, food, and activities for the kids. 

“This year we are excited to offer four food trucks, a hot chocolate bar, glow bracelets and necklaces, s’mores stations, balloon artist Mr. Twister, and a fire juggler,” said Jessie Sharps, Homecoming committee chair. 

Dr. Joy Hatch joins Fairmont State University as vice president for IT and CIO

Fairmont State University welcomes Dr. Joy Hatch as the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. 

Her background includes a Bachelor’s in commercial design from Barton College, followed by a Masters in Information Systems and her Ph.D. in information systems. She then went on to earn an MBA to ensure that she had the business background to complement the technology knowledge.

Fairmont State University President Mirta M. Martin was recognized by Marion County legislators during Thursday’s Board of Governors meeting.  Del. Michael Angelucci and Del. Linda Longstreth presented a plaque for the consistent and tireless work Martin did on behalf of higher education during the legislative session. 

Starbucks ribbon cutting and grand opening held

Fairmont State University together with its dining partner, Aladdin, held a ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new Starbucks fully licensed store on Monday, April 15 to enhance its already stellar dining experience where students enjoy nationally ranked top food brands. 

Aladdin specializes in higher education dining which combines its culinary expertise with favorite quick service brands. 

Jed and Vicki Smith make historical gift to support Fairmont State University students

On Friday, April 12, Fairmont State history was made when Jed and Vicki Smith donated $1M to the Fairmont State Foundation. This historic gift will create the Jed and Vicki Smith Scholars endowment which will award scholarships to full-time students. This is the largest gift received from a living alumnus in university history.

Fairmont State University’s Student Government Association announced the 2019 Senior Campaign —Beautify the Bell—during a kick-off even held today in The Falcon Center. 

Senior Raychel Fitzwater, and acting Student Government Association president, said they chose the project to create a brick patio and seating area around the bell. They feel this is a great way to honor the Victory Bell’s upcoming 80th anniversary on campus.
