Fairmont State University’s Student Government Association announced the 2019 Senior Campaign —Beautify the Bell—during a kick-off even held today in The Falcon Center.
Senior Raychel Fitzwater, and acting Student Government Association president, said they chose the project to create a brick patio and seating area around the bell. They feel this is a great way to honor the Victory Bell’s upcoming 80th anniversary on campus.
Fairmont State University President Dr. Mirta M. Martin has been named to the Blue Ribbon Commission on Four-Year Higher Education. On July 2, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced at a press conference in Charleston that he has signed an executive order creating the Blue Ribbon Commission to assess the current state of four-year higher education institutions in West Virginia.
Born in Havana, Cuba and growing up in Madrid, Spain, Fairmont State University President Dr. Mirta Martin knows firsthand the journey to success. After immigrating to the United States, she completed her undergraduate degrees in political science and psychology from Duke University and earned a master of business administration from the University of Richmond; and a doctorate with an emphasis in strategic management and leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Fairmont State President Mirta Martin spoke to student leaders from the campuses of West Virginia’s public two- and four-year colleges and universities on Monday, at Jackson’s Mill. The keynote was part of the annual West Virginia Student Leadership Conference.
More than 60 student government leaders participated in the annual conference aimed at discussing issues facing higher education in West Virginia and at respective college campuses.
West Virginia higher education leaders committed today to the state’s Momentum Pathways Project, a program that uses proven strategies to improve student success during the first year of college and sustain that momentum through to graduation. The group representing the state’s public higher education institutions met today along with national experts to discuss strategies that increase student retention and graduation.
