West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of 23 locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal Sunday^SM event on Sunday, Feb. 10, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

Students and parents can receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) during the free workshops.

About 250 students will participate in Winter Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Feaster Center. A reception in the Falcon Center will immediately follow the ceremony.

When Morris Morrison finished his high school education, all he wanted was a chance to be successful in life, and he knew that he would need a college education to make that a reality.

Without the help of parents in his life to support him financially, Morrison was faced with the task of paying for college on his own.

Since becoming informed regarding the loss of accreditation at Mountain State University, the state’s higher education system, led by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, is leading several outreach efforts to assist displaced students. 

As part of the Introduction to Global Perspectives course, which offers students a chance to familiarize themselves with cultures and concepts outside their own, 11 students and two instructors from Fairmont State University spent their spring break in Canada. This trip, which offered many students their first international experience, was funded by a grant from the Consortium for Internationalizing Higher Education, part of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

When it was time for the first home FSU football game, Black Student Union members wanted to be the first make their mark for the Community Engagement Initiative. In fact, “Make Your Mark” is the theme this year for the student organization.

CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (Commission) is announcing a series of Regional Public Forums aimed at assessing higher education’s progress in meeting the goals and objectives as outlined in Charting the Future 2007-2012: A Master Plan for West Virginia Higher Education.  The forums will be hosted and sponsored by various four-year public colleges and universities and held at the respective campuses.  The forums will provide an opportunity to receive feedback from community members, higher education officials, and policymakers regarding the current master plan and the development of a new master plan.

Fairmont State University has been awarded a Diversity through Equity Grant from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission to build and support diversity initiatives for students, faculty, staff and the broader Fairmont community.

 Fairmont State University is one of three West Virginia four-year public universities awarded a grant focusing on international education by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
