On Wednesday February 6, Fairmont State University welcomed three West Virginia writers— Michael W. Cox, Jessie Van Eerden, and John Van Kirk—who each read short passages of their works of fiction to all who attended.
Not only did the authors thoroughly demonstrate their creative abilities and writing talents, but they captivated their audience when they read their stories aloud in such as a way that they imagined them happening.
Cox practically brought people to tears when he shared his short story about a male prostitute from his recently released, “Against the Hidden River,” a collection of short stories.
Van Eerden read various passages from her novel, “Glorybound,” with enthusiastic energy and delightful dialects.
Van Kirk had the listeners bursting out in laughter as he read pieces of his novel, “Song for Chance,” a tale of 1970s sex, drugs, and rock and roll seen through the eyes of a musician.
Van Eerden and Van Kirk also impressed all in attendance when they sprang with pleasing voices into the lines of songs which were a part of their texts, only proving that their talents did not stop at putting words onto paper.
