More than 570 graduates will be celebrated during the 150th Commencement ceremonies for Fairmont State University on Saturday, May 11, in the Feaster Center. Both ceremonies will include the Inauguration of President Mirta M. Martin.

At the annual end-of-the-year picnic for Fairmont State University faculty and staff, RJ Gimbl, President and CEO of the Fairmont State Foundation, surprised FSU President Maria Rose with a special gift from the FSU community. Gimbl announced the creation of the Maria C. Rose Endowed Scholarship for first generation college students.

Women of FSU & Pierpont Support HOPE at Holiday Tea

Thanks to the generosity of a network of women helping women, gifts will help brighten the spirits of the women at HOPE, Inc., a shelter for the victims of domestic violence and a United Way of Marion County agency.

On Nov. 29, the women of FSU and Pierpont (female faculty, staff members, alumnae, retirees, board members and their spouses or partners) gathered at the Shaw House (President’s House) for A Holiday Tea and brought gifts for women at HOPE, Inc.

The holiday season at FSU includes several events at the Shaw House, the president’s home on the main campus. To make sure the house is ready to welcome guests with festive trimmings and a beautiful tree decorated with maroon ornaments, a group of community members have volunteered to decorate every year. Decorating is their way of supporting FSU President Maria Rose for all she does for the community throughout the year.

Each year Fairmont State University supports the United Way of Marion County annual campaign. Many faculty and staff contribute each year to help meet the campaign goal, which is set at $440,000 for this year. Students joined the campaign this fall by participating in a raffle for a prime parking spot – the president’s.
