Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has received an almost $25,000 grant from the First2 Network along with an addition $5,000 match from Chemours Washington Works and Fairmont State University. 

Fairmont State University has received a $5,000 grant to support the one-week Forensic and Analytic Chemistry Technology (FACT) summer camp for middle school students. This award was made possible by the West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC), and the West Virginia Research Challenge Fund.

Fairmont State University has been named one of the top 10 most affordable schools for Forensic Science by Affordable Schools. 

Dr. Mark Flood, Fairmont State coordinator of the Forensic Science program, said this ranking is exciting and shows the quality of the Forensic Science program while also still be affordable. 

Twin brothers, Isaac and Elijah Lanigan, from Brooke County, West Virginia, came to Fairmont State University to participate in the free Forensic and Analytical Chemistry Technology (FACT) summer camp. 

The mother of the sixth graders, Sara Roark was happy to bring them to camp, even though they had to stay in a hotel, since the camp was free and educational. 

Students in the Biology and Forensic Science programs presented their projects from their senior capstone seminar classes on Friday morning and for the first time ever, presenting to their underclassmen peers.

This award is made possible by the West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC), and the West Virginia Research Challenge Fund.

During February’s Faculty Senate meeting, Fairmont State University’s forensic science program received approval for the creation of a Forensic and Investigative Science minor. This is only the second program of its kind in West Virginia.

A four-member team of faculty from Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology have been awarded a $20,000 grant from West Virginia Science & Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Team members include Dr. Mark Flood, Dr. Erica Harvey, Dr. Matt Scanlon and Dr. Andreas Baur. The grant will be used to acquire an atomic absorption (AA) spectrometer.

Fairmont State University’s outstanding faculty members were recognized on Wednesday, April 27, during the Recognition of Faculty Achievement luncheon for their exemplary efforts throughout the 2015-2016 academic year.
