Fairmont State enrollment census data demonstrating strong growth

Fairmont State University has reported an overall increase in enrollment rates, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The University submitted official file submissions for the Early Fall 2020 term to the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission on October 15.

Fairmont State University increased overall enrollment for fall 2018 with a total of 3,895 students in attendance. Since its split from Pierpont Community and Technical College in 2003, this is the largest freshman class, totaling 848 first-time freshman. This is an increase of 10.3% over fall 2017. 

As the largest freshman class in Fairmont State University history settles into the semester, the Fairmont community is seeing positive economic impact.

A college diploma can open up new career opportunities for working adults. Economic projections indicate that by 2018 more than 49 percent of jobs in the state will require education or training beyond high school, but only 26 percent of West Virginians have completed an associate or bachelor’s degree.

Fairmont State University is hosting an Open House for Adult Students on Aug. 1 for those considering finishing a degree started earlier in life or beginning a new degree.

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission on Nov. 17 released fall 2010 enrollment data for the state higher education system, which revealed that a record 95,118 students are enrolled, marking a 2 percent increase over fall 2009 - when enrollment surpassed 90,000 for the first time in state history - and a 10.5 percent increase over fall 2006.
