Financial Aid

Fairmont State University is now accepting General Scholarship applications for the 2023 – 2024 academic year. Both incoming and current Fairmont State students are encouraged to complete the General Scholarship application by March 1, 2023. 

In response to student needs and economic changes in West Virginia and the surrounding region, Fairmont State University has taken critical action to address student housing insecurities for its campus community.

In an effort to assist students and families who have been impacted by the current pandemic, the Fairmont State University Board of Governors (BOG) voted to approve the proposed 2020-2021 budget without increasing tuition and fees.  

Fairmont State University’s Tresa Weimer, Executive Director of Student Support Services, has been appointed to the Higher Education Student Financial Aid Advisory Board for the Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC). 

Weimer currently serves as the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, oversees Admissions, Student Services, and Student Systems. Her position on the board was approved by the HEPC on December 5, 2019 and her term will run through June 30, 2022. 

For the ninth consecutive year, three West Virginia high school seniors have been named as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship.

The family of Fairmont State Nursing alumna Regina Sue Dulin DeMary has established an Impact Scholarship in her memory through the Fairmont State Foundation.

For the seventh consecutive year, three West Virginia high school seniors have been named as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship.

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of 25 locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal Sunday^SM event on Sunday, Feb. 9, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), the West Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and several other college access programs including TRiO and GEAR UP work together to coordinate the event.

The Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg will be one of 23 locations throughout the state to host the annual College Goal Sunday^SM event on Sunday, Feb. 10, presented by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

Students and parents can receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) during the free workshops.

Fairmont State University has named Kaye Caplinger Widney as Vice President for Student Services, the chief enrollment management and student services officer for the University.

With almost 40 years of experience in higher education, Widney is an experienced supervisor and budget manager, having served as Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at West Virginia University and before that as Director of Financial Aid at Fairmont State.
