FAIRMONT, W.Va. Thursday, June 30 – Fairmont State University’s Academy for the Arts has received a $10,000 grant from the Truist West Virginia Foundation to provide need-based scholarships to be applied to student tuition for camps, classes and private lessons throughout the summer and 2022 – 23 academic year.

As Fairmont State prepares for the upcoming year, the University’s commitment to serving students, campus and surrounding communities remains at the forefront. 

Throughout the 2021 – 22 academic year, Fairmont State University continued serving its mission to provide quality, transformative opportunities to students, while strengthening the talent pipeline into the region, the State of West Virginia and beyond. 

Fairmont State University’s Creative Sustainability Council (CSC), a campus organization focused on sustainability initiatives for the University and community, has been awarded a grant of $27,120 from the Appalachian Stewardship Foundation (ASF) to implement two sustainability initiatives on campus this summer. These initiatives have been designed in partnership with Aladdin Food Service and the Fairmont State Foundation.

Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has received an almost $25,000 grant from the First2 Network along with an addition $5,000 match from Chemours Washington Works and Fairmont State University. 

Fairmont State University has been awarded grant funding from West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The $20,000 award will support the purchase of a new functional magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. 

Fairmont State University has been awarded grant funding from West Virginia Science and Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The $12,806 award will support the purchase of a Forensic Comparison Microscope, a 3D Light Scanner, and hardware to run both pieces of equipment. 

Fairmont State University has received a grant for $7,461.50 from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s (HEPC) Diversity for Equity grant program to support the development of a new initiative to encourage females to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Fairmont State University’s Department of Natural Sciences has received a $50,000 grant from the West Virginia IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (WV-INBRE) with a $15,000 match from the University for a genetic analyzer.

Fairmont State University's Dr. Tom Cuchta, assistant professor of mathematics, was invited to two international conferences this summer and gave four lectures. 

Fairmont State University has been awarded $20,000 from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ Office of Drug Control Policy to help provide recovery resources for adults in educational environments through Collegiate Recovery Programs (CRPs).
