Starting her own business was not Lyla Grandstaff’s first leap of faith.

A native of Rivesville, Lyla attended Fairmont State in the fall of 1980. “I wasn’t sure of a major and was working part-time. I was offered a full-time position and quit school,” she says.

Even though she was working, she says she wasn’t able to advance because she didn’t have a college degree.

Fairmont State University Accounting students are providing free income tax preparation assistance in five counties and receiving real-life experience to benefit them in their future careers.

A reception to honor seven international students graduating from Fairmont State University is planned for noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. The Office of International Student Services will host the event in collaboration with the International Education Committee.

Fairmont State University kicker Frank Keenan and defensive back Dewey McDonald have earned first team Capitol One Division II Academic All-America® honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today. Fairmont State was one of just three schools to have multiple first team selections.

About 250 students will participate in Winter Commencement for Fairmont State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Feaster Center. A reception in the Falcon Center will immediately follow the ceremony.

Tucked away in Colebank Hall, a Fairmont State employee writes programs and maintains applications critical to the operation of the University. The position in the Information Technology Department is the first full-time professional experience for Clarence B. Pearson, III.  And, the 2010 FSU graduate is determined to contribute and succeed from his small corner office.   

The Instructor Exchange Program at Fairmont State University will present a panel discussion regarding the African American Family at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library.
